Venice | The city of romance

May 5, 2017

During the fabulous Italian Tour, Venice was the last stop. It was so very different from Rome and Florence; much smaller, quieter, and more ‘lived in’. We stayed slightly outside of the city and took public transportation into the city of canals. Walking through the city was like traveling back in time; there were accordian players outside centuries old cathedrals, children were playing freely in the streets on scooters, and there were lots of old ladies scurrying about the city (in my head I imagine them all going to some hole-in-the-wall cafe to sip espresso and gossip in Italian about all the foreigners, haha!).

The one thing on the agenda? A gondola ride, of course! We had a fabulous gondolier (I kid you not, that’s what the gondola drivers are called) – he sang (the macarana), told us lots of history (both about people like Casanova, as well as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and where all the movies were shot in Venice), and he even showed us exactly where he could be seen in Casino Royale with his Gondola. He was a fun guy, haha! I definitely recommend springing for the gondola ride when in Venice, it was a once in a lifetime experience.

I enjoyed Venice, not quite as much as I loved Florence, but I am so glad to have been able to experience it. Also, can we just talk about how gorgeous it would have been to have had a Bride and Groom to photograph in that Gondola, or along the canals? Yeah, somebody needs to get married over there asap and invite this chic
