2017 was certainly a year to remember for both Ashley Sue Photography and the Braswell family in general! We had so many adventures, met lots of new friends and moved from Atlanta to Charlotte.
The year started off with lots of uncertainty as we weren’t sure what Luke’s career was going to look like over the course of the new year. Without knowing whether we would be staying in Atlanta or moving, my advertising had to be put on hold which put a damper on the amount of weddings this year started out with. Never fear though, God had other plans in mind for ASP and I ended the year with a full season and lots of new Bride’s that I am so happy to call friends. My editing business also took off and I gained FIVE new full time clients which means this year I edited over 150 weddings!
In February Luke received the FABULOUS news that he had been hired with PSA and would start his training in April! This not only gave our family the direction it needed but also meant we got to push up our Disney World trip to March!
Disney World was, of course, everything we dreamed it would be. The kids had a marvelous time and even Grandma (Luke’s mom) got to come with us.
April was when things started to get busy! Luke left for his training in Ohio and I had senior sessions and engagement sessions, amid stock photography and packing for our big move!
May is always a busy month for our family since we celebrate Luke’s Birthday, my Birthday, Mother’s Day, and our anniversary (shew!). It’s also one of the busiest months for weddings! I was able to spend my birthday/mother’s day week in Ohio with Luke. He was still in training so during the day while he was in class I made new friends in Dayton, took some headshots and got to meet up with one of my editing clients who took some fun photos of Luke and I in some vintage pieces I found at a local vintage store! (Thanks Leanne!)
May also held some beautiful weddings and sessions in Atlanta, as well as a beach trip with one of my childhood friends and our babies!
In June we were in high packing mode amidst two more gorgeous Atlanta weddings at two of my favorite venues; Callenwolde and CeNita Vineyards.
Off to Charlotte we went and it was honestly like moving home for us. We found our #farmhousehaven and are getting to live our dream of living in the country while still only being about 30 minutes to the airport. We spent lots of time in our big yard, decorated our front porch in true southern style and I got to put my very best Joanna Gaines impression out into the world. Amelia also turned FIVE years old! She had a small party in our backyard with a yummy 3 tiered cake, all her favorite foods and enough presents to blow her little 5 year old mind.
In August, we were still settling into life in Charlotte and I booked my very first Charlotte wedding! Their engagement session was at Elon where they met and my heart was on cloud 9 as I started to see my business making the transition to our new home city. Moving a business is SO hard and honestly, I was super scared to do it! I did lots of praying, LOTS of marketing, and I’ve been so relieved to see ASP grow bit by bit in Charlotte!
In September, Amelia started Kindergarten (I know, how is this possible?!) and the aviation gods smiled on us to have Luke get home in time to get her off the bus! I don’t think I’ve ever seen such big smiles from both Daddy and daughter 🙂 They’re just the cutest.
I also made some new friends and was able to associate shoot a few weddings in the area! I photographed a gorgeous wedding in Fayetteville under the KJP brand complete with antique cars and a whole cabin full of vintage items. It was a dream!
September also held the beginnings of #bizbabes; an offshoot of ASP where I talk about the marketing and techie info that has helped ASP grow from hobby to business and be moved across the east coast twice. I am incredibly blessed to have my passion be my career and I felt that it was time for me to pay it forward and help others in the same position. So far I’ve been able to build 5 websites for fellow small business owners and I’m amping up to teach my very first e-course in the spring of 2018.
October was an absolute WHIRLWIND with maternity and double wedding weekends galore! John also turned THREE this month and had a Chuck-e-cheese birthday party in Asheville where it snowed! Halloween was also a fun night with waayyyyy too much candy from our fancy pirate and dinosaur!
November was a month of catch up as I edited like a mad woman for myself and clients and ended up completing 30 sessions and 24 weddings in this month alone! I also took a trip back to Atlanta to photograph a wedding and engagment session! While I was there I got to spend some time with my (pregnant!) sister on her birthday and take their Christmas photos.
And that brings us to now! December has been a little slower as I finished up galleries, took a few Christmas portrait sessions, a Christmas tree farm engagement session, and one super fun snow day. I’m looking forward to Christmas next week and spending time with family. 2018 is going to start off at a sprint with 10 days in Florida/the Bahamas as I photograph a Tampa wedding first, spend a week in Orlando for sessions and FUN, and then off to the Disney Cruise wedding weekend!!! It’s sure to be an exciting time!!!
I hope that you’re looking forward to 2018 with happy anticipation, ready to accomplish your goals and be intentional about the type of life you’re planning to build. I have chosen the word ‘present’ for 2018 and I am looking forward to finding ways to be intentional about working hard, but also playing hard and spending time with this hunky hubs of mine and our two crazy but ridiculously cute kiddos ❤️
I can’t wait to share more photos and fun with you in 2018! I hope you and yours have a very merry Christmas and happy New Year!!
